Malaria is the number one killer in Ghana. Ghana has around 3.5 Million reported clinical cases of malaria annually with nearly one million of those in children under the age of five. This equates to 6.7 new diagnosed cases of malaria per minute and 1.6 deaths of children under the age of five per hour.
As part of the international development and volunteer community in Ghana, SWAT Malaria Initiative has teamed up with the Tech Think Tank (T3) to add a modern twist to Peace Corps’ oldest malaria initiative.
They intend to apply technological innovations that will bring us to the forefront of the ever-changing battlefield against malaria.
Peace Corps Ghana is hosting a hackathon with the support of Coders4Africa and Mobile Web Ghana. We will develop a number of malaria education applications. Computer programmers/coders are invited to participate. Meals will be provided. You may stand a chance of winning a prize!! 🙂
