Facebook has launched photo-sharing app Slingshot, which requires users to reply to a message before opening it. Mark Zuckerberg and co gave the world a teaser of its brand new Snapchat-esque app called Slingshot when it “accidentally” popped up in the iTunes Store last week but i did not publish the leak news on this blog.
In good news, Facebook has now made Slingshot official. I know you maybe Wondering what the App is all about. Well, it is a Photo-sharing App and here is five quick facts you need to know about Slingshot:
#1: Photo and video sharing is the order of the day
Slingshot is very similar to Snapchat – you can share photos and videos up to 15 seconds long, draw or add some text and colour and “sling” it to all your friends. In order for someone to view a photo or video, they’ll have to sling one back to the sender and so it goes on. You can choose to sling content to either just one person at a time, or a group of friends.
#2: Say everything in 140 characters
Unlike the normal Facebook app where you’re free to add long text to a post, Slingshot, like Twitter, limits you to only 140 characters to each post. The most probable reason for this is to add to the quick and creative sharing element of the app.
#3: You can delete your photos and videos right away
Whatever is shared on Slingshot, doesn’t have to stay on Slingshot. As soon as you receive content from your friends, you can delete them by swiping your finger across the screen. You can however save photos and videos to your photo’s camera roll.
#4: You’re not limited to Facebook friends only
On Slingshot, you can add friends from your phone’s contact list, search for their username’s or choose from your Facebook friends list. The only catch is that anyone who has the app and has your information can sling a photo or video to you. You do have the option to simply ignore the message and hide certain people from your list of friends if you don’t want to engage with them.
#5: It’s only available in the US for now
South Africa along with rest of the world will have to wait just a bit longer to get their hands on the app as it hasn’t been released outside of American borders yet. But, we’ll let you know once it launches locally.
At this Junction (J) Time (T) I will be resting my fingers and pass over the keyboard to you.
