To help you stay on the ball with what’s going down around the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Facebook and Twitter have each launched their own World Cup hubs for easy tracking.
Trending World Cup on Facebook features photos, videos, news, latest scores and highlights from the matches, posts about the World Cup from your friends and updates from relevant players and teams. There’s also an interactive map that shows you which top players have the most fans and where around the world those fans are located.
And because so many people love engaging on social networks while watching sports to share and comment, you can share what you’re watching at a certain time by clicking on the smiley icon when you create a post, selecting “watching”, typing which teams you’re watching and selecting the ball icon.
Trending World Cup is available on the web, smartphones and on feature phones. You can access it by visiting www.facebook.com/worldcup or typing #worldcup in the search bar on your PC, tapping the soccer icon on your home screen if you’re using the Facebook for Every Phone app on a feature phone and by searching for the #WorldCup hashtag on your smartphone.
The Twitter World Cup 2014 hub appears at the top right corner of your screen on your PC or you can be access it from your phone by simply typing in the hashtag #WorldCup. Here you can see all tweets about the World Cup, see and follow the accounts of your favourite teams, see what time each match starts in local time and what the score is once the match kicks off in real time and view photos and videos.
Twitter has also brought back a special world cup feature it debuted for the 2010 World Cup called Hashflags, where if you enter a certain team’s hashtag code, their country’s flag will appear as an image right next to it.
