Regardless, it’s good to have a little context about what all these version numbers and names mean when you see them posted on the Internet.

Since April 2009, Android versions have been developed under a confectionery (food items that are rich in sugar 🙂 )-themed code name and released according to alphabetical order.
Android Version 1.5 – Cupcake
Android Version 1.6 – Donut
Android Version 2.0/2.01/2.1 – Eclair
Android Version 2.2 – Froyo
Android Version 2.3 – Gingerbread
Android Version 3.0 / 3.1 /3.2 – Honeycomb
Improvements to Honeycomb were announced at Google IO in May 2011 as Android 3.1, and Android 3.2 was released.

Android Version 4.1-4.2 – Jelly Bean
Jelly Bean 4.1 was released in July 2012 while jelly bean 4.2 was released in November 2012.
Jelly Bean is hailed by many as the turning point for Android, where all the great services and customization options finally meet great design guidelines.
Android 4.4 KitKat
Google announced Android 4.4 KitKat on 3 September 2013.The release had long been expected by technology bloggers to be numbered 5.0 and called “Key Lime Pie“. KitKat debuted on Google’s Nexus 5 on 31 October 2013, and has been optimized to run on a greater range of devices than earlier Android versions, having 512 MB of RAM as a recommended minimum.
