WEST Africa’s biggest ICT and mobile phone manufacturing giant, Rlg, continues to spread its tentacles across the continent with the inauguration of a $50 million Technology City in Illesha, Nigeria.
The “Rlg-Adulawo Technology City,” which represents a public-private partnership between Rlg Communications and the State of Osun, is a world-class facility that will create over 10,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly in Nigeria.
The commissioning ceremony attracted an array of Nigerian government officials, Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, couldn’t hide his happiness on the successful completion of the technology city.
“This project means growth; it means development; it means prosperity; it means joy and happiness. It means fulfilment to a large segment of our people,” he told an ecstatic crowd.
He said ICT is the life of the current state of human development, hence the need to embrace it.
“We proposed a training offer to Rlg and they found it irresistible. That is what first of all cemented our relationship and from there we are here (technology city).”
He said the joint partnership will enable 20,000 youth from the state to be trained in various aspect of ICT including repairs, assemblage and programming while over 800 others will gain permanent jobs, working in shifts, a number which is expected to increase to 10,000 upon completion of remaining phases of the project.
About Rlg-Adulawo Technology City
The “Rlg-Adulawo Technology City” is a state of the art assembling plant located on the Illesha Akure Express Way, in Nigeria. The plant has the capacity of to assemble of 5,000 mobile phones and 2,500 computers, per day, making a minimum of 7,500 devices in a day. It has a fully furnished training canter, ” research & development (R & D) lab, corporate office building and a staff quarters. It also has two big warehouses. Also installed at the facility is Green Technology – Biogas Plant, which will provide cooking gas for the staff quarter and also the capacity to generate 3KVA electricity which can be used for power supply.
