The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), is to supply its distance learning students with electronic tablet devices and SIM cards to ensure effective teaching and learning.
The SIM cards would enable students in various parts of the country to make free calls among themselves and lecturers at all times.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, who made this known at the matriculation of first-year students last Tuesday, said the university had also converted all modules into electronic books and interactive online learning platform.
The ceremony was held for 2,231 students in the southern sector.
The initiative is said it be aimed at promoting distance education in the country and would also allow students to access online tutorials at all of the university’s 24 study centres.
Prof. Ameyaw-Asabere indicated that technology had changed the face of education; adding that the university, by its distance education mode, sought, to further enhance prospects of admitting more students.
Some of the students implored the authorities to ensure that the devices that had been promised were received on time.
